Samuel Chifney was a jockey in the 1700s who designed a series of bits to lead race colts easily and effectively.
This bit is only used in-hand. This version is the most severe as it applies downward pressure into the middle of the tongue. Usually suspended on a bradoon slip head with the lead rein onto the back ring.
Very effective piece of kit used mainly in the racing world. Many people use a Chifney for loading as it will help control a wayward horse.
